Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

At the end of this Curricular Unit students should be able to describe the main assumptions of Community Psychology, to identify mental and social at-risk-communities as well as to understand, analyse and critically reflect on different community assessment and intervention strategies. With social at-risk-community the methodology used in the Portuguese processes with children in need will be described and practiced.
The presentation and analysis of national community programs with at-risk-groups aims to encourage students to reflect and recognize the goals of community psychology (the prevention and promotion of human development) and to identify the systemic approach of this type of intervention. This fieldwork also intends to foster the training of gathering information strategies and of diagnostic assessment with individuals-at-risk, their families or technicians.

Syllabus:
  1. Epistemological Foundations of Community Psychology.
  2. Ecology and community.
  3. Community intervention in contexts of social and mental health at-risk.
