Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
Some of the main objectives of this curricular unit are: help students differentiate between the main approaches in developmental psychology and pedagogy and to describe with a broad scope the specificities human development since birth and during all childhood.
After this curricular unit students should be able to differentiate the main perspectives and contributes that frame all the human development studies during childhood, identify and differentiate all developmental stages.
The students are also supposed to develop competences in what concerns some of the main instruments that can be used for the developmental evaluation as well as different pedagogic approaches to maximize cognitive development in children.
Students will also develop an ability to differentiate the main problems concerning global and neuropsychological development that affect the integration of children in the formal educational system, as well as learn about the main methodologies developed to stimulate and support these children towards integration.

Lectures:
In the theoretical component of this curricular unit we will focus on all the stages of physical (motor and language), cognitive, social and emotional development of the child since birth and until the beginning of adolescence. We will also focus in the main perspectives in child pedagogy during all the different stages, such as cognitivist, behaviorist and humanist. We will specify several aspects fundamental to the Human Development since conception. We will focus on the characteristics of pre-natal development until birth. We will also be concerned with all development transitions since birth and during all childhood.
