Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

Goals:

  • To acquire knowledge of the drug-therapeutic groups, their role as agents as well as their actions and therapeutic effects.
  • To relate the drug-therapeutic groups to the potential nursing diagnoses, the procedures to be performed for medication administration, the teaching to the person and the family, as well as the evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy.

Skills:

  • Knows the therapeutic indication and mechanisms of action of the pharmacological groups.
  • Detects, prevents and documents adverse drug reactions and possible therapeutic errors.
  • Identifies and knows the procedures to be performed for safe administration of therapy.
  • Knows the computer support for the prescription / administration of online therapy.
Syllabus:
  1. General notions of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
  2. Drugs that act in the Central Nervous System
  3. Anti-allergic drugs
  4. Drugs that act on the Respiratory System
  5. Drugs that act on the Gastrointestinal System
  6. Drugs that act on the Cardiovascular System
  7. Drugs that modify growth and cell viability
  8. Drugs that inhibit or destroy invading organisms
  9. Drugs that work in Hormonal Systems

Theoretical-Practical Classes:

  1. Principles of preparation and administration of therapy: intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, oral, topical and rectal
  2. Elaboration of therapeutic fiches
  3. Venous blood collection
  4. Blood collection for peripheral blood culture

Lab Classes:

  1. Therapeutic administration practice: intramuscular, subcutaneous, intravenous, oral, topical and rectal
  2. Evaluation of capillary glycemia
  3. Peripheral vein catheterization
  4. Preparation and administration of serum therapy
