Goals:

  • Learn the basic concepts of physiology.
  • Know and understand the functions of the different organs and systems of the human body.
  • Be able to recognize the systems’ interrelationships.
  • Acquire the ability to apply theory concepts in clinical practice.

Skills:

  • Uses properly nomenclature.
  • Applies basic knowledge of Physiology.
  • Describes the functioning of various organs and systems.
  • Identifies and understands the purpose of the human body evaluation methods.
  • Has an overview of the normal functioning of the human organism.
  • Uses his knowledge to solve clinical problems.
Syllabus:
  1. CELLULAR PHYSIOLOGY
    Biological compartments.
    Cellular excitability.
    Neurotransmission.
  2. PHYSIOLOGY OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
    Somatic nervous system.
    Autonomic nervous system: parasympathetic, sympathetic and enteric system.
  3. PHYSIOLOGY OF MOTOR SYSTEMS
    Skeletal, smooth and cardiac muscles.
    Structures involved in voluntary movement.
  4. PHYSIOLOGY OF SENSORY SYSTEMS
    Nociceptive system and pain.
    Thermoceptive system, thermoregulation and fever.
  5. PHYSIOLOGY OF THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
    Heart.
    Circulatory system.
  6. PHYSIOLOGY OF THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
    Inspiration and expiration.
    Gas exchanges I and transport in lungs and tissue.
    Regulation of respiration.
    Other functions.
  7. PHYSIOLOGY OF THE URINARY SYSTEM
    Function and regulation of nephrons.
    Reflex of urination.
    Other kidney functions.
  8. PHYSIOLOGY OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM
    Functions and mechanisms of regulation of gastrointestinal motility.
    Functions and regulation of annexes glands.
    Defecation reflex.
    Other functions.
