Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
  • Know and develop skills associated with ethics inherent to the practice of Veterinary Medicine
  • Know the social and legal responsibilities inherent to the exercise of the profession of the Veterinarian
  • To acknowledge the ethical limits associated with the use of animals in medicine, teaching and research.
Syllabus:
  1. Importance of Veterinary Medicine in the evolution of the times and history associated with the Veterinary Medicine profession
  2. Inform and raise awareness of the rights and duties of veterinarians according to the ethical and deontological rules in force in the Code of Ethics prepared by and approved by the Order of Veterinary Physicians
  3. Interpersonal relationships associated with the profession in the socio-professional context and relationship with other professions in the context of multidisciplinary collaborations
  4. Concept of bioethics and its application in veterinary medicine: social, personal and professional ethics; Bioethical Limits of Animal Use for Human Benefit, Animal Experimentation and Veterinary Medicine Teaching
  5. General Society Responsibilities of Veterinarians
  6. Veterinary Medicine in Equine, Livestock Management, Companion Animals, Zoo and Health and Sanitary Responsibilities of Veterinarians
