Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
The curricular unit is divided into the following: fixed prosthodontics, removable partial prosthodontics, occlusion.
Goals & Skills to be attained:
- The student is expected to be able to define fixed prosthodontics, removable partial prosthodontics and occlusion.
- The student is expected to demonstrate both in writing and orally, as well as in simulators that he/she has acquired the basic knowledge that allows him/her to plan and make a unitary fixed prosthesis and a removable partial prosthesis whilst complying with the principles of occlusion.
- The student is expected to be able to demonstrate the principles that apply to oral prosthetic rehabilitations.
- To develop in the student study habits, together with accuracy and precision in the usage of technical and professional vocabulary.
- To stimulate the curiosity and interest of the student so as to have him/her contribute with (new) ideas to the development of occlusion.
- To identify and describe the stomatognathic system.
Syllabus:
- FIXED PROSTHODONTICS
Porcelain veneers.
Intraradicular posts.
Metal alloys used in prosthodontics.
Metal bonding to ceramic, to enamel and to dentin.
Ceramics for dental applications.
Oral rehabilitation and aesthetics.
The use of cements in fixed prosthodontics. - REMOVABLE PROSTHODONTICS
Connectors in RPD.
Definition and eligibility criteria.
Major and minor connectors.
Mandibular and palatal cannectors.
Planning of removable partial dentures (RPD). Planning of tooth/tissue-borne RPDs.
Removal prosthodontics: mouth preparation for RPDs. Lab steps for the design of RPDs. - OCCLUSION
Occlusal adjustment.
Temporomandibular joint dysfunction differential diagnosis.
The concept of normocclusion.
The role of complementary diagnosis exams in determining etiological factors and structural lesions and in confirming diagnosis.
The bruxism, stress and sleep disorders.
