Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

Students must acquire knowledge about the mechanism of action of the drugs listed in Global Pragramme Contents, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profile, major interactions, side effects, indications and contraindications.
Develop skills that allow:

  • To recognize potential adverse effects of medications.
  • To recognize situations in which a given drug is indicated or contraindicated.
  • To recognize/avoid drug interactions.

In theoretical-practical classes students should deepen the notions acquired in the theoretical component and develop skills that allow:

  • To develop research and selection of information, interpretation and synthesis skills.
  • To solve problems and justify their own arguments.
  • To make a lifelong self-directed and autonomous learning.
  • To develop written and oral communication of scientific content and teamwork.
  • To communicate their knowledge and arguments in a clear and unambiguous way.
Syllabus:
  1. Drugs that act on the GI system.
  2. Pharmacology of corticosteroids.
  3. Opioid analgesics and antagonists.
  4. Pharmacology of anxiolytics, antidepressants, anticonvulsant drugs.
  5. Pharmacology of insulin and oral antidiabetic drugs.
  6. Drugs that act on the cardiovascular system.
  7. Drugs that act in hemostasis and coagulation.
  8. Pharmacology of bisphosphonates.
  9. Pharmacology of muscle relaxants.
  10. Pharmacological groups and drug adverse reactions that can cause damage to oral functions.
In each pharmacological group will be addressed the following aspects:
Main drugs of each group.
Mechanism of action.
Main pharmacokinetic characteristics.
Main indications and contraindications.
Adverse effects.
Drug Interactions.
