Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
  • Provide the conceptual bases that allow understanding the psychological processes involved in mental functioning and human behaviour.
  • Understand the major disorders associated with the psychological processes.
  • Recognize and understand the interaction between the psychological processes and their relevance in the assessment of criminal behavior.
  • Characterize the Criminal and Forensic Psychology as a field of study applied to the characterization and analysis of the complexity of criminal behavior, identifying the actors of this process: the victim, the context and the offender.
  • Identify the key explanatory variables of criminal behavior and to recognize the importance of integrative perspectives.
  • Understanding how the knowledge and methodologies of Criminal and Forensic Psychology can be applied to the assessment / intervention with offenders and victims.
  • Analyze the concepts, challenges and problems that forensic psychologists face in carrying out their duties.
  • Analyze the collaboration between psychologists and specialists of other areas of the Justice System, including professionals from other areas of the criminal sciences, social and human.

  1. The biological basis and psychological processes of human behaviour.
  2. Consciousness.
  3. Sensory processes and perception.
  4. Attention and memory.
  5. Cognition and learning.
  6. Motivation - homeostasis and control systems; factors and theories of human motivation.
  7. The psychological processes and the criminal behaviour.
  8. The criminal behaviour and areas of application of Forensic Psychology.
  9. The forensic psychological assessment and judgment.
  10. Application Areas of Forensic Psychological Assessment.
  11. Technical advice to the courts (e.g. psychological skills).
  12. The expert report.
