Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
- To understand the role of psychology in the promotion of health, in the prevention of illness and the promotion of quality of life in acute and chronic illness.
- To know the role of beliefs, and of behaviors, in the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
- To evaluate the role of psychological factors in the etiology, progression and the consequences of illness.
- To analyze the concept of quality of life and its impact on health and illness.
- To understand the role of the psychologist in the various contexts and models of intervention.
Syllabus:
- Historical basis of Health care in the world and the development of the field of health psychology: the context of the biomedical model in health and in illness and the emergence of different conceptualizations of both health and illness that emerge throughout the 20th century.
- The role of beliefs and behaviors in the etiology of illness.
- Analyses of programs to promote health and illness prevention in the various institutional contexts, including primary care settings.
