Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
  • To understand the role of psychology in the promotion of health, in the prevention of illness and the promotion of quality of life in acute and chronic illness.
  • To know the role of beliefs, and of behaviors, in the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
  • To evaluate the role of psychological factors in the etiology, progression and the consequences of illness.
  • To analyze the concept of quality of life and its impact on health and illness.
  • To understand the role of the psychologist in the various contexts and models of intervention.
Syllabus:
  1. Historical basis of Health care in the world and the development of the field of health psychology: the context of the biomedical model in health and in illness and the emergence of different conceptualizations of both health and illness that emerge throughout the 20th century.
  2. The role of beliefs and behaviors in the etiology of illness.
  3. Analyses of programs to promote health and illness prevention in the various institutional contexts, including primary care settings.
