Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
  • Learn about the importance of knowledge of psychology roots and make its historical and socio-cultural framework
  • Present scientific knowledge about developments and ruptures throughout the history of Psychology
  • Make known the importance of the relationship between theory and practice for acquisitions in Psychology, as well as the importance of the epistemology for the elaboration of psychological knowledge
  • Present Psychology as an autonomous science and stablish its relations with interface disciplines

Competences:

  • Historically frame the roots of Psychology
  • Identify advances and ruptures throughout the history of psychology
  • Define epistemology of psychology and identify its importance in the development of psychological knowledge
  • Contextualize the scientific production in Psychology and its relationship with the interface disciplines
Syllabus:
  1. Origin of the concept of psychology.
  2. Contribution from ancient and modern philosophy for the establishment of psychology.
  3. Epistemology: knowledge validation science.
  4. The different epistemologies of the 19th and throughout the 20th century.
  5. Contemporary perspectives in psychology.
