Exercise Physiology2

Fisiologia do Exercício

Course code:9504202

Catarina Afonso Godinho Santana

Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

This curricular unit study the adaptive processes related to physical activity in motor tasks in situations of exercise. Based on the concept of adaptation, we intend to develop in students an integrated knowledge of human physiology in exercise situations, through a systemic perspective addressed at different levels of complexity.

At the end of the course students should demonstrate knowledge to enable them to:

  • Identify the key areas of Exercise Physiology;
  • Define the basics of the various themes of the course starts from the concept "exercise as a stimulus to biological adaptation;
  • Understand and predict the acute and chronic changes resulting from different types of exercise at the level of different organs and systems;
  • Analyse, interpret and summarize the literature of the specialty.
Syllabus:
  1. Training principles, concepts of stimulus and adaptation: Biological Individuality, Adaptation, Overload, Continuity, Volume-intensity Interdependence, Specificity, Variability and Health.
  2. Metabolism and Bioenergetics, anabolic and catabolic systems.
  3. Acute and chronic adaptations of the different types of exercise, at the different organs and biological systems: Pulmonary and Respiratory, Cardiovascular, Endocrine, Renal and Neuromuscular.
  4. Thermoregulation and physical activity.
  5. Adaptations to exercise in children, and elderly.
