Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

Students must acquire knowledge about the pathogenesis, pathology, epidemiology, prevention and treatment of major human parasitological e fungal infections listed in global programme contents.
Students who successfully complete the course must have acquired the ability of interpretation in relation to situations related to the subjects taught including interpretation and evaluation of clinical microbiological requirements and subsequent execution.

Syllabus:
  1. Parasitology - General concepts.
  2. Quality and safety in parasitology. Concepts of epidemiology and infection. Relationship host/parasite. Mechanisms of pathogenicity/virulence. Opportunistic parasites. Emerging parasitosis.
  3. Biology, epidemiology and pathogenesis of arthropods, protozoa and helminths with public health importance.
  4. General characteristics and classification of fungi. Fungus as pathogens and as symbionts. Antifungal agents.
  5. Major fungal mycosis agents. Classification of mycoses.
  6. Characterization of etiologic agents, epidemiology, clinical presentation, diagnosis and therapy: superficial mycoses, subcutaneous mycoses, systemic mycoses by dimorphic fungi, mycoses by opportunistic fungi, emergent mycoses. Drug interactions.
