Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
Goals:
- Develop skills to provide nursing care in complex care settings (Emergency Services and Intensive Care Units).
- Collect and analyze data relevant to the diagnostic evaluation and its nursing interventions to the person in critical situation.
- Develop a structured and efficient response to the person in critical situation.
- Mobilize the knowledge about the person in critical situation, acquired during the already accomplished steps of the academic course.
- Develop technical skills in performing each procedure (maintenance of airway patency, electrocardiographic monitoring, defibrillation, cardioversion and cardiac pacing).
- Know the concept of an emerging critical and sick patient.
- Know the principles of control of infection before the person in critical situation.
- Reflect on the ethical aspects in the context of providing care to the person in critical situation.
Skills:
- Recognizes the importance of the evaluation of nursing interventions in the maintenance of the basic functions of life
- Can develop nursing diagnoses according to the changes identified
- Demonstrates knowing the nursing interventions according to the identified nursing foci
- Understands the problem of the individual and family in the face of an unexpected health problem and their hospitalization in differentiated health units.
- Identifies nursing focuses on the person in critical situation with changes in the various systems of the body
- Knows the basic life support algorithm
- Knows the various modalities of ventilatory support
- Uses the critical reflection on the available scientific evidence in the contextualization of the intervention model to the person in critical and emergent situation
- Knows the different methods of pain evaluation as well as the pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions in their treatment
- Is aware of OMS pain escalation and is able to use it in complex care settings
- Responds effectively in unexpected or rapidly changing situations, in the provision and nursing care of the person in critical situation
- Anticipates and is proactive in the care of patients with major hemodynamic instability
- Establishes priorities for care, as modified by the patient
- Applies knowledge about existing resources in maintaining basic life functions
- Complies with the administration of therapeutic protocols established in the respective services
- Applies knowledge acquired in the area of infection prevention and control
- Understands the values and principles inherent to the clinical decision applied to the person in critical situation
- Correctly communicates relevant information about the state of health of the person in critical situation, in an oral, written and electronic manner, respecting their area of competence
- Ensures that the information provided to the person in critical situation and family is presented in an appropriate and clear manner and does not exceed the limits of their area of competence
- Promotes and maintains the professional image.
- Prepares the internship dossier
