Goals:

  • To enable the student to understand health care policies and practices in health institutions in Portugal.
  • To identify the particularities of health care organizations and the main models of the health system financing.
  • Critically analyze nurses’ role in the management and leadership of health care organizations.
  • Critically analyze the role of general care nurses in continuous quality improvement of health care.

  • It describes basic concepts of organization and management of the national health system.
  • Discusses the evolution of health care policies in Portugal.
  • It characterizes the different components of health organizations management process.
  • Initiates and participates in discussions of innovation and change in nursing and health care.
