Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
In the end of this unit, students must be able to characterize the different issues that characterize the practice in Forensic Psychology, in accordance with the interdisciplinarity that defines the Justice System and develop scientific research applied to this field.
- Obtain a wide and deep understanding of the orientations followed in contemporary Forensic Psychology.
- Define the object of study.
- Identify the relationship between Forensic Psychology and other areas of Psychology.
- Know concepts, techniques, challenges and problems forensic psychologists face in the assessment of criminal responsibility, pathological, malingering, testimony veracity and elaboration of expert reports.
- Understand the need to cooperate with specialists that deal with similar issues in the Justice System, namely, law and mental health professionals.
Syllabus:
- Forensic Psychology: Delimitation of the object of study.
- Notions of crime, anti-social behavior and criminal responsibility.
- Contexts of psychological assessment and judicial decision making
- Witness evidence and assessment of veracity.
- Psychologist as expert witness in court.
