Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

After attending the Course Unit students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of medicines and their role as therapeutic agents;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the pharmaco-therapeutic groups as well as their actions and therapeutic effects;
  • Know and identify the main side effects, interactions, contraindications and dosages of the medicines most frequently used;
  • Demonstrate knowledge and expertise enabling it to identify the therapeutic indication and the mechanisms of action of pharmaco-therapeutic groups;
  • Detect and prevent adverse drug reactions and relate the therapeutic and side effects of pharmacotherapeutic groups with their implications for the acts of physiotherapy.
Syllabus:
  1. Overview of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics
  2. Autonomic nervous system and the somatic nervous system - drugs affecting neurotransmission
  3. Central nervous system - drugs affecting the behavior, the psycho state, the painful feeling, muscle control and sleep
  4. Drugs acting on the respiratory system
  5. Anti-allergic drugs
  6. Drugs acting on gastro-intestinal system
  7. Drugs acting on the cardiovascular system
  8. Drugs that modify the growth and cell viability
  9. Drugs that inhibit or destroy the bodies invaders
  10. Drugs acting on hormone systems
  11. Other drugs: Electrolyte solutions and other drugs for ionization; Antidotes and Drugs useful in the treatment of poisoning
