Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
  • Understand the relationship between the individual and his environment , through subjective and objective indicators assessed by the multidisciplinary team;
  • Identify and describe measurement and evaluation in health to ensure the correct selection and use of these instruments;
  • Know how to use a scale or other measuring instruments , generic or for specific condition;
  • Know how to select and use means for mitigate the consequences of disability;
  • How to recognize the barriers that restrict the participation of disabled people;
  • Learn to advise and use the wide range of support technologies that meet the needs of different populations;
  • Analyse and evaluate the requirements and features needed to adapt individual’s home to provide him/her maximum comfort;
  • Apply previously acquired knowledge in the selection of equipment or therapeutic tools, taking into account their relevance and efficiency;
  • Develop technical skills of selection that allow them to make choices in accordance with good practice of physical therapy;
  • Contextualize their choices on current scientific evidence, demonstrating an evolutive understanding and constant technological development;
  • Reflect on selection of equipment and different therapeutic methods which best suit to the conditions presented by patients / clients;
  • Integrate the scientific process and its impact on the practice of physiotherapy, particularly in the selection and application of the devices.
Syllabus:
    1. Clinical decision making process physiotherapy.
    2. Health assessment measurements (vital signs, body composition, physical fitness).
    3. Measurement instruments of health status and quality of life, quality and citizenship.
    4. Support technologies in Physiotherapy and Portuguese legislation.
    5. Applicability of different equipment and technologies in different areas of intervention.
    6. Brief approach to new technologies available to the rehabilitation process (robotics, bionics and deployment of computer chips, virtual reality and wii games, software for mobile devices).
Lab practical classes:
 
Clinical decision making process physiotherapy.

Measurement instruments of health status and quality of life, quality and citizenship.
Support technologies in Physiotherapy and Portuguese legislation.
Modalities and therapeutic resources available to the physiotherapist and physiotherapy.
