Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

The course aims to enable the student, with the basic knowledge of general immunology and its application to the field of Dentistry. It is intended to equip the student with a critical spirit so as to combine the knowledge of the basic disciplines already assimilated with those of immunology to understand the role that it plays in homeostasis and health; by interconnecting the various immunological mechanisms, resulting from the dynamic interdependence between molecules, cells and organs.
Finally, using this knowledge the student should have contact with examples of immunological imbalances and pathologies resulting therefrom; this will allow you to understand the applicability of a theoretical subject, often addressed at the molecular level.

At the end of the course the student must have acquired:

  • Knowledge appropriate to the extent and depth of the subject matter.
  • Understand the growing importance of immunological knowledge.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize and integrate the knowledge imparted.
Syllabus:
  1. Innate immunity.
  2. Antigen recognition.
  3. Adaptive immunity.
  4. Immune system in health and disease.
