Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
This curricular unit has the objective of providing students general concepts about drugs in order to allow a safe use and prescription of these drugs. Develop skills that allow:
- To recognize potential adverse effects of medications;
- To recognize situations in which a given drug is indicated or contraindicated;
- To recognize / avoid drug interactions.
In theoretical-practical classes students should develop skills that allow:
- To develop research and selection of information, interpretation and synthesis skills;
- To solve problems and justify their own arguments;
- To make a lifelong self-directed and autonomous learning ;
- To develop written and oral communication of scientific content and teamwork;
- To communicate their knowledge and arguments in a clear and unambiguous way.
Syllabus:
- General pharmacology: concepts.
- Special populations in pharmacology: children, pregnant and lactating women and the elderly.
- Pharmacology of anti-infective drugs.
- Antiseptic and disinfectant drugs.
- Local anaesthetics drugs.
In each pharmacological group will be addressed the following aspects:
Main drugs of each group.
Mechanism of action.
Main pharmacokinetic characteristics.
Main indications and contraindications.
Adverse effects.
Drug interactions.
