Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
  • Objective 1: To know the principles of morphogenesis and organogenesis associated with the formation of endocrine glands in different domestic animals.
  • Objective 2: Know how to identify microscopically the tissues associated with endocrine glands in different domestic animals
  • Objective 3: To identify the anatomical structures associated with the endocrine glands in different domestic animals.
  • Objective 4: Understand the physiological mechanisms of the endocrine glands and their contribution to the functioning of the organism as a whole in different domestic animals
  • Objective 5: To differentiate physiological from pathological parameters in the functioning of the endocrine glands.
Syllabus:
    1. Morphogenesis and organogenesis of endocrine glands with their physiological function .
    2. Histology and Physiology of endocrine glands.
    3. Anatomical structures of the endocrine system, their spatial and functional organization.
    4. Physiological mechanisms of the endocrine system and its contribution to the regulation of the entire animal body function.
    5. Patterns of endocrine disfunction and their effects in the animal organism by comparing against homeostatic animals.
    6. Thoracic and abdominal wall anatomy. Diafragm.
    7. Abdominal cavity: ligaments and serosas. General topography.
Practice Component
  1. Optical microscope observation of cells and tissues
  2. Dissection and exploration of anatomical parts. Exploring anatomical models and plastinated organs.
  3. In silico simulation of endocrine system physiology, by use of the PhysioEx software.
