Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

The aim of this curricular unit is the acquisition of fundamental concepts regarding the pathophysiology of human systems and organs.

Students will learn to:

  • Use a clinical terminology shared with other health professionals.
  • Debate the human disorders with other students and with other health professionals.
  • Understand the clinical and laboratorial features according to pathophysiology changes.
  • Understand data of exams according to pathophysiology changes.
  1. Basic terminology and concepts on pathophysiology.
  2. Cell and tissue damage. Cell damage, adaptation and death.
  3. Pathology of blood and hematopoietic organs.
  4. Pathology of cardiovascular disorders.
  5. Disorders of the arteries: hypertension and atherosclerosis.
  6. Pathology of the Respiratory System.
  7. Pathology of the renal disorders.
  8. Pathology of the Endocrine Glands.
  9. Diabetes and pathology of the Endocrine Glands.
  10. Mineral metabolism and metabolic bone disorders.
  11. Pathology of gastrointestinal disease.
  12. Pathology of the liver, biliary tract and exocrine pancreas disorders.
  13. Pathology of the Nervous System disorders.
