Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

Objectives:

  • Acquire knowledge and theoretical foundations that allow the development to which it proposes to Forensic Dentistry.
  • Encourage and stimulate the need to acquire knowledge after graduation.
  • Stimulating readings and reviews of articles and publications relating to this matter.

Skills:

  • Approach the usefulness of these new skills in their future professional life.
  • Knowledge of the medical-legal system in the various branches of forensic legal laws, ethics and forensic response, as well as achievement and collaborative investigations required for direct collaboration with justice.
  • Ability of individual recognition through the study of the lips, palate, teeth and bite, allowing to discern and confirm the individualization both as victims and as corpses.
Syllabus:
  1. THE ROLE OF FORENSIC MEDICINE IN CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION
  2. KEY TECHNIQUES AND METHODOLOGIES IN FORENSICS
    First line techniques – Anthropological, photographic, digital prints and biological fluids.
    Second line techniques – Lip prints, palatoscopic dental and signs.
    Identifying methods – deductive method or reconstructive comparative.
  3. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND AND APPROACH OF FORENSIC DENTISTRY
    Evolution of recognition of the references used in dentistry to identify corpses and other casualties.
  4. DELIMITATION OF FORENSIC DENTISTRY
    Basically used in identifying corpses later and now have reasons established intervention in other fields of activity as forensic child abuse, the damage and the study of buccal tooth bites.
    The Forensic Dentistry helps us in crossing with criminal contributing consistently to the analysis and interpretation of evidence.
  5. METHODOLOGIES AND TECHNIQUES USED IN DENTAL MEDICINE
    Effective and viable economic costs constituting the facilitating factor of your application.
