Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
- Preventing the development of periodontal disease in future patients.
- Diagnosis and treatment planning of moderate periodontal disease.
- Diagnose and guide all cases of advanced periodontal disease who require more complex periodontal treatment.
- Be aware of the importance of Periodontology in Dentistry and Public Health.
- Students should have all skills of the "Code of Professional Skills of the Master in Dentistry": Generic skills, skills in knowledge and understanding, specific skills, professional ethics and professional attitude.
Syllabus:
- THE ROLE OF SYSTEMIC DISEASES IN THE PERIODONTAL DISEASES ETIOLOGY
- CHANGES THAT OCCUR IN THE TRANSITION BETWEEN HEALTH AND THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE
The immune reactions that explain the pathogenesis of periodontal disease.
The histopathology, microbiology and clinical presentations of different forms of periodontal disease: The gingivitis, the necrotizing gingivitis, gingival overgrowth, periodontitis, periodontitis associated with systemic diseases.
Periodontal manifestations of systemic diseases.
The clinical and histological consequences of traumatic occlusion on the periodontium. - PERIODONTAL DISEASES EPIDEMIOLOGY
Clinical manifestations that allow diagnosing all cases of periodontal disease, as well as diagnostic tools to be used for evaluation of these parameters, with particular emphasis on periodontal probe.
The interpretation of the normal structures and pathological changes that can detected on radiographs and the contribution to periodontal diagnosis.
The pathogenesis, clinical presentation and treatment of endo-periodontal lesions.
The periodontal treatment plan; The general philosophy behind.
The technical approach to patients with periodontal disease. How to obtain their indispensable collaboration in the treatment.
The importance of oral hygiene in the treatment of periodontal disease.
The importance of the root scaling in the periodontal treatment.
