Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

The aim of this curricular unit is the acquisition of fundamental concepts regarding:

  • The basic mechanisms of cell and tissue damage
  • The pathophysiological of human systems and organs

Students will learn to:

  • Use a clinical terminology shared with other health professionals.
  • Debate the human disorders with other students and with other health professionals
  • Understand the clinical features according to pathophysiology changes
  • Understand laboratory data and other exams according to pathophysiology changes
Syllabus:
  1. Basic terminology and concepts on pathophysiology
  2. Cell and tissue damage. Cell damage, adaptation and death
  3. Pathophysiology of blood and hematopoietic organs
  4. Pathophysiology of cardiovascular disorders
  5. Disorders of the arteries: hypertension and atherosclerosis
  6. Pathophysiology of the Respiratory System
  7. Pathophysiology of the renal disorders. Fluid and electrolyte disturbances. Acidosis and alkalosis
  8. Pathophysiology of the E System disorders
  9. Mineral metabolism and metabolic bone disorders
  10. Pathophysiology of the Endocrine System
  11. Pathophysiology of the Hypothalamus and Pituitary gland
  12. Pathophysiology of the Thyroid gland
  13. Pathophysiology of Adrenal Cortex
  14. Pathophysiology of Adrenal Medulla
  15. Diabetes and endocrine pancreas disorders
  16. Pathophysiology of the liver, biliary tract and exocrine pancreas disorders
