Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

Objectives:

  • to guide the student to participate actively, integrating theoretical knowledge with clinical practice in patients
  • to help the student create a safe working environment with special reference to the control of cross infection;
  • to promote the student to assume shared responsibility for health.

The adequate theoretical knowledge to clinical experience should enable the resolution of clinical problems encountered independently or without assistance. Skills to be developed are:

  • manage and maintain a safe working environment with special reference to control cross infection;
  • educate patients about the etiology and prevention of oral disease and encourage them to take responsibility for their oral health;
  • know the scientific principles of sterilization, disinfection and antisepsis in clinical practice;
  • the humane and compassionate care to all patients; e) preventive and reparative procedures, the hard and soft tissue diseases.
Syllabus:
  1. The operating theater and preventive behavior
  2. Patients in need of special treatment
  3. The vulnerability and risk of HIV infection and interest to demystify the possible risks of HIV transmission
  4. HIV:oral and systemic manifestations
  5. The Medical Dental Consultation Routine HIV positive patients for HIV or AIDS
  6. Guidelines for the control of cross-infection in the practice of dentistry
  7. Proceedings of occupational accidents
  8. Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease on preventive practice
  9. Patients with hereditary coagulopathies in preventive practice
  10. Oral cancer: prevalence, causes, risk groups, primary, secondary and tertiary prevention
  11. Oral manifestations of other systemic diseases and their relation to prevention; Aging and Oral Health II
