Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
- Preventing the development of periodontal disease in their future patients;;
- Diagnose and treatment planning of moderate periodontal disease;
- Diagnose and guide all cases of advanced periodontal disease who require more complex periodontal treatment;
- Be aware of the importance of Periodontology in Dentistry and Public Health.
- Students should have all skills of the "Code of Professional Skills of the Master in Dentistry": Generic skills, skills in knowledge and understanding, specific skills, professional ethics and professional attitude.
Syllabus:
- The basic sciences related to Periodontology.
- The macroscopic and microscopic features oh healthy periodontum.
- Etiological factors involved in periodontal diseases.
- The plaque formation.
- The role of systemic diseases in the etiology of periodontal diseases.
- The transition between periodontal health and different periodontal diseases.
- Immunology and pathogenesis of periodontal disease.
- The histopathology, clinical and microbiology of periodontal diseases.
- The different forms of gingivitis and periodontitis.
- Periodontal diseases epidemiology.
- The clinical diagnosis of periodontal diseases.
- The interpretation of the normal structures and pathological changes detected on radiographs and its importance for periodontal diagnosis.
