Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

The goals and objectives are updating knowledge previously covered by General Pharmacology and Microbiology, developing skills to deal with most of the therapeutic decisions commonly made by practicing physicians.
Develop skills that allow to:

  • Evaluate medical prescriptions
  • Follow up the use of drugs
  • Provide correct information on drugs to patients in order to promote its correct use
  • Distinguish drug-related events from spontaneous alterations in disease and major drug-drug interactions.
In practical classes students should deepen the notions acquired in the theoretical component and develop skills that allow to:
  • Integrate knowledge, deal with complex issues and solve problems in new clinical case studies.
  • Develop research, interpretation and written and oral communication of scientific content and team work
Syllabus:
  1. Central and Autonomic nervous system drugs
  2. Oral antipyretics and analgesics
  3. Anti-inflammatory drugs
  4. Use of Glucocorticoids
  5. Principles of Antimicrobial Therapy
  6. Surgical Antibiotic Prophylaxis
  7. Histamine- receptor blockers
  8. Fluoride Therapy
  9. Antiseptics and disinfectants
