Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

With Oral Immunology course, is intended that:

  • The student is familiarized with basic concepts of the immune system, including terminology and methodology of its study, understand the importance of immune mechanisms in individual protection against infection and other external and / or internal aggressions and meet the main groups of pathologies associated with the Immune System;
  • Acquire knowledge about the fundamentals of the methodologies applied to the study of the immune system and its applicability in each case, collection of biological products, execution and interpretation of results.
Syllabus:
  1. Introduction to immunology: basic concepts, components of the immune system.
  2. Innate immunity.
  3. Antigen recognition.
  4. Adaptive immunity.
  5. Immune system in health and disease.
  6. Immunology of oral cavity.
  7. Origin of the immune response of oral cavity: Immunological consequences of dental plaque formation; Immunological reactions in dental caries and periodontal disease; Oral manifestations of systemic diseases mediated by immune mechanisms; Oral tumor immunology.
