Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

The objective of the theoretical programme is to provide the knowledge of the general morphology of the human body in order to prepare the understanding of its structures and functioning.
The objective of the practical programme is to confront students with real anatomical elements or models, in direct contact. The practical classes are still used as a means of assessing student achievement.
At the end of the course, students should:

  • Be able to identify and locate the exact position of a structure;
  • Be able to observe and describe accurately and objectively a structure;
  • Be able to explain the relationship between form and function;
  • Know the anatomical terminology they will use during their career and enabling them to communicate with other members of a multidisciplinary team or a research team;
  • Have acquired anatomical concepts essential for understanding the rest of the course contents;
Syllabus:
  1. The heart: General organization; Location; Mediastinum; External anatomy; Internal anatomy; Heart valves; Vascular supply; Conduction system; Pericardium.
  2. Vascular system: General organization; Aortic artery system; Branches of the aortic arch, Branches of the thoracic aorta; Branches of the aorta; Terminal branches of the aorta; Venous system; Lymphatic system.
  3. Respiratory system: General organization; Airways; Lung; Pleura.
  4. Digestive system: General organization; Gastrointestinal tract; Liver and biliary tree; Salivary glands; Pancreas; Peritoneum.
  5. Urogenital System: General organization; Kidney; Urinary tract; Female genitals; Male genitals.
  6. Endocrine System: General organization; Pituitary; Thyroid; Parathyroid; Pancreas; Adrenal glands; Ovary; Testicle.
  7. Central Nervous System: General organization; Spinal Cord; Brainstem; Cerebellum; Brain; Internal structure of the brain; The meninges; Cerebrospinal fluid.
  8. Special senses: Vision. Hearing.
