Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:
The objective of the CU Physiology I is to provide the student with knowledge about the cellular, anatomic, electrophysiological and biochemical bases of the functional systems of the human body. The student will be able to perform a self-learning to update the advances in research and to apply them to practical professional activities
Syllabus:
- Physiology of cell membranes.
- The fluid compartments and water dynamics.
- The blood: general constitution and functions.
- The lymph.
- Membrane transport: passive and active mechanisms of transport.
- Membrane potential and excitability: mechanism of action potential generation and its regulation.
- The neuron: general characteristics.
- The conduction of the nerve impulse and the synapses.
- Neurotransmitters.
- The autonomous nervous system.
- The muscle: characteristics of skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle physiology.
