Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

Instrumental skills:

  • To be able to organize, plan, identify problems and propose solutions conducive to professional improvement.
  • To be able to describe, fabricate work models and dies for metal ceramic restorations by using the appropriate instruments, equipment and materials. Work protocols.
  • To plan, fabricate and finish unitary crown restorations in ceramic.

  • To show empathy towards others, respect ethics and professional deontology.
  • Taking responsibility for one’s actions, learning from ongoing self-evaluation.
  • Ability to adjust to new situations.

Syllabus:
  1. Fixed Prosthesis principles of tooth preparation.
  2. Anterior or posterior teeth 3 unit bridge and the pillars of all ceramic restorations.
  3. Making of metal infrastructures for metal-ceramic bridges (porcelain fused to metal bridge); design of anterior and posterior dental bridge models; Pre-treatment considerations as to the size, length and height of the bridge. Dental pontics; types of dental pontics; bridge connectors.
  4. Types of all ceramic systems – classification according to respective fabrication methods and composition; An overview of the evolution of all ceramic systems.
  5. Ceramics – potential laboratorial and clinical complications and available solutions.
  6. Dental ceramics current thinking and trends; Research.
