Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

General:

  • Develop in students the spirit of research and scientific rigor.
  • Provide the student the knowledge of: History and development of the dental prosthesis; Fundamental principles of materials for prosthetic purposes; Planning and construction of a removable partial denture.
  • Develop in the student the habit of study, accuracy and precision in the use of proper technical and professional language.
  • Stimulate curiosity and interest of the student, so that, with new ideas, will contribute to the development of Prosthodontics.

Specific:

  • Demonstrate written, oral and practical in which acquired the basic knowledge to plan and prepare any Removable Prosthodontics.

Practical:

  • The student must be able to identify and manipulate materials required for the execution of a RPD.
  • Using machinery according to the rules of hygiene and safety practice specific to the discipline.
  • Perform all procedures necessary for preparation and planning for a RPD and subsequent adjustments.
  • Comply with the protocols and times given for each procedure demonstrated over the practical classes.

  3. Constituents of a RPD.
  4. Systems in RPD.
  5. Biomechanics of insertion and detachment.
  6. Retainers: Number and distribution.
  7. Occlusal support.
  8. Retainers - types.
  9. Retainers- classification.
  10. Connectors.
  11. Saddle
  12. Clinical and laboratory sequence.
