Learning outcomes of the curricular unit:

Goals:

  • Develop knowledge and integration in their application in the anatomy and physiology of dental pieces sculpture as members of the stomatognathic system.
  • Acquire knowledge about the anatomy of the dental pieces and interrelation of the same in the oral cavity.
  • Provide students with practical knowledge (sculpture and drawing) to enable it to carry out replicas of the teeth.
  • Encourage not only the practice of these works but the interest of the oral morphology.

Skills:

  • Understanding of the material taught in the sense of accomplishment of the sculpture and design of dental pieces.
  • Owning manual capability and intuitive to achieve the same work critically and interventionist.
  • Insight in the field of assessment of their development, as a student in the practice of the discipline of information.
Syllabus:
  1. General Information about dental anatomy and its importance in professional future.
  2. The oral cavity and its relation to dental pieces, limits and related organs.
  3. Dental development and embryonic organ. Active and passive eruption. Start of enamel formation and coronary different ages of tooth eruption.
  4. Types of teething. Deciduous, mixed and permanent.
  5. Structures attached to the oral cavity. Salivary glands, tongue and channels of excretion.
  6. Dental structures. Constitution morphological external and internal. Enamel, dentin, pulp, crown and root. Apex dental and alveolar bone.
  7. Nomenclature (WHO) form and function of teeth. Division by quadrants. Dental relationship and associated structures.
  8. Anatomy of positive and negative elements to consider for holding dentures.
  9. Anatomy descriptive of the incisors and canines and inferiors.
  10. Pre upper and lower molars.
  11. Upper and lower molars.
  12. Relation of occlusion to TMJ (temporomandibular joint).
  13. Comparative anatomy of all teeth.
